Chicago Tekken, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the Fighting Game Community, supported the #BLM movement in 2020 with a Tekken 7 tournament. I was asked to create the logo for this meaningful event and handle it with the psychology and care as a creative professional and I took the challenge with the pride of a person of color during a very pivotal and stressful time in our nation's history.
I wanted it to feel close to the BLM movement logo. I also suggested we throw in a bit of gaming/esports style logo design to attract gamers to let them know while we were fighting injustices with this stream, this is still a safe space for FGC (Fighting Game Community) fun.
The tourney raised over $12,000 for #thebailproject and streamed to over 1,000 viewers. The marketing efforts raised Chicago Tekken's viewership by 10%.
The research involved 3 components; a gaming/competitive feel, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the color yellow. The choice was to go with a type treatment with hard, large block lettering to keep the esports feel.
Chi-Tek agreed with the direction of the logo and with its professional quality and precise technique. The event raised over $12,000 for The Bail Project.
The Instagram Carousel was one of the only marketing pieces made professionally. Created to show the impact and a call to action to donate to other import NFP's, the carousel saw great success.
It was an awesome project and amazing to see the community come through in a huge way."
